THIS WEEKEND: AMP presents ELEVEN, an engaging evening that embodies/offers a wide range of physical perspectives within contemporary dance.

Experience four dynamic new works that explore the relationship between human and machine, the connections between the body and enjoyment, the storytelling in music and movement, and the imaginative universes within dream states and black holes. Join us for our eleventh season!

Alexandra Bodnarchuk presents Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS) – Virtual Edition, an evening-length contemporary dance duet filmed and edited by Tamara Ober, available April 14-May 12!

RPS explores the generational passing down of rules and customs of our bodies. What traditions do we choose to pass down? Which rules will we break?

Situated on a set comprised of a floor and two opposing walls, Alexandra uses text, play, and contemporary phrase work to draw inspiration from her heritage and create a surreal playground of problem-solving.

This work features dancers Nieya Amezquita and Sarah McCullough, sound design by Brandon Anderson Musser, with directorial and dramaturgical support by Marcela Michelle.

This work has been supported in part by the Ann and Weston Hicks Choreography Fellowship at Jacob’s Pillow under the direction of Dianne McIntyre and Risa Steinberg, and mentorship of Andrea Miller and Abby Zbikowski.

Black Label Movement celebrates the 15th anniversary of Carl Flink and Mary Ellen Childs’ award-winning, evening-length work Wreck, which explores how a group of 13 people trapped in the last watertight compartment of a sinking ship respond to their harrowing situation.

The work features Flink and Black Label Movement’s signature driving and deeply human choreography, Childs’ glorious and mysterious original score, and a live onstage musical ensemble led by Pat O’Keefe.

Between Slow Walks: What’s Been and Hasn’t Been Seen

Between Slow Walks: What’s Been and Hasn’t Been Seen is a loosely-structured-movement improvisational performance. Ogura and Andaházy will explore the illusion of space between what’s visible and not visible. Please join them in a playful and engaging journey. The ten-minute performance will cycle three times during the hour, and the audience can come and go as they please.

Join TCB’s professional ballet dancers at the Lakeville Area Arts Center for a fun-filled, interactive mini-show designed for families and children ages preschool through eight. The programs are less than an hour long—the perfect length for busy schedules and curious minds.

Dance With Me includes a short performance in costume by TCB’s professional company dancers, and invites children to dance along with the performers. Highlighting age- and ability-appropriate body movement using different forms of dance, each mini-show features a different theme and optional audience participation. Last performance for this season!

ARENA DANCES presents the seventh annual CANDY BOX Dance Festival, Minnesota’s only dance festival with a dynamic sampling of great dance artists featuring performances, master classes, and public showings wrapped all in one week. This year’s festival features the work of local Twin Cities artists Berit Ahlgren of HoneyWorks and Megan Mayer, with a warm welcome to Chicago-based artist J’Sun Howard with a National Performance Network co-commission to headline.

CANDY BOX Dance Festival is a unique celebration of dance, packed with a wonderful assortment of various renowned choreographers, accomplished dancers, and fresh movement styles all perfectly packed into one sweet week. It is an opportunity for diverse emerging and established artists to share the performance stage, with the addition of selected artists leading intimate workshops to offer a welcoming space for communal movement education, and in doing so gathering a range of tastes for varied audiences.

Following a pandemic-induced postponement, and their gorgeous Northrop Centennial Commissioned film, Northrop is pleased to present the much-anticipated return of The State Ballet of Georgia. The company has soared under the bold artistic direction of international ballet star Nina Ananiashvili (former prima ballerina with Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre) who leads these stunning dancers in a program that includes two works by the great Georgian-American, George Balanchine, and the company’s signature work, Sagalobeli, by Yuri Possokhov—all accompanied by a live orchestra with Music Conductor, Gavriel Heine.

Katha Dance Theatre is proud to present a classic Kathak dance work in the vein of those performed for kings and emperors in eighteenth-century India. Kathak E-motion embodies the grandiosity and opulence of Hindu and Islamic royal courts while also exemplifying the art form’s integral expression of emotions, known as Abhinya. Using Kathak’s complex rhythms, intricate footwork, graceful movements, pirouettes, and gestural storytelling, Kathak E-motion epitomizes the form in breathtaking style.

Featuring live music and a guest dance performance by world-renowned artists Kousic Sen, Chandrachur Bhattacharjee, Pankaj Mishra, Pooja Goswami Pavan, Anirban Bhattacharyya, and Souvik Chakraborty. Choreography by Rita Mustaphi.
