Floorwork: a communal conversation and shared meal.

Every first Saturday! Floorwork was developed to hold conversations, knowledge sharing, and supportive space for dance artists and people who like to move.

This May Floorwork will focus on artist residencies (April’s “snow blizzard check”) – conversation assisted by April Sellers of April Sellers Dance Collective, Liz Engelmen of Tofte Lake Center, and Sharon Mansur, an Arab/SWANA American experimental dance and interdisciplinary artist who will be joining us via Zoom. Conversation will be held over a communal meal – bring your own dish to share in our potluck! ARENA DANCES will supply beverages, plates, napkins, and utensils.

Cypherspace is a place of unlimited possibilities that allow for the reshaping of reality through various embodiments. The MIXTAPE Collective travels to the future through cyberspace to offer multiple perspectives on the next millennium. MIXTAPE’s work reveals generative strategies for sharing power and access to resources by weaving together choreography, videography, and musical compositions.

Join us for an evening of original dance storytelling centered on the non-binary and LGBTQIA experience that seeks to inform, educate, and entertain audiences of all ages.

An evening of tap dance, with new and classic choreography by Leon Collins (as taught and shared by Dianne Walker and Lia Spirka), Naomi Funaki, Kaleena Miller, Bobby Hamilton, and Tony van de Light, as well as KMD2 Company Members. The show will also feature Random Motions in Nature and Dance, a very special collaboration with UMN Civil Engineering Professor Vaughan Voller that illuminates the patterns that emerge from random motions.

With performances by KMD2 Company Members Leah Chamaty, Anna Curtler, Evan Guffey, Grace Fabienke, Anika Kachmarek, Shelby Lee, Nina Maxwell, Delaina Thill, Ruby Thill, and Allie Wing and KMD Apprentices Bobby Hamilton, Abby King, Emma Parker, and Tony van de Ligt.

KMD2 Company Members and KMD Apprentices are pre-professional, creative incubation groups for emerging tap dance talent in the Twin Cities.

The 3-Women Project will feature choreographic works from a group of three internationally renowned black female artists who will each work individually within their own creative processes while simultaneously seeking to explore and discover synergistic and unifying themes throughout the process. The project will incorporate educational opportunities and culminate in live, in-person performances in May 2023.

The choreographers include Stephanie Batten Bland, Alanna Morris, and Yusha-Marie Sorzano. TU Dance seeks to create artistic space for these three dynamic and award-winning dance artists to share their distinctly strong voices in choreographic work and their deep investment and investigations into their own artistic practice and identity as black women. TU Dance looks forward to engaging with our community to share and celebrate the perspectives of these three women through this exciting and ambitious project.

Join Twin Cities Ballet for the return of Cinderella 1944: A Love Story, May 12–14 at Ames Center in Burnsville. About Twin Cities Ballet: 
Twin Cities Ballet of Minnesota (TCB) is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional ballet company located in the Twin Cities’ South Metro. Our mission is to connect and enrich communities by making ballet approachable, relatable, and fun, through professional and original productions and educational outreach.

 These activities are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

QUARTET 

A sound-focused dance work in 4 parts. A series of structures for exploration, collaboration, listening, and sounding.

Choreographed by Kaleena Miller.

Featuring guest performers from the East Coast including Benae Beamon from Philadelphia, Madison Hilligoss from New York, and Michael J. Love from Princeton, alongside Minnesota-based dancers Audrey Bartley, Bobby Hamilton, Abby King, Nina Maxwell, Emma Parker, and Tony van de Ligt.

Ballet Minnesota is thrilled to present the 34th Minnesota Dance Festival at E.M. Pearson Theater at Concordia University May 13-14.

MDF will feature the classic ballet Paquita restaged by Cheryl Rist and Andrew Rist’s new work Friends, while sharing the stage with many guest artists including CAAM Chinese Dance Theater, Elena Hollenhorst, Eva Igo, Jim Lieberthal, Juliana Johnson, Kala Vandanam, Keane Sense of Rhythm, O’Shea Irish Dance, and Universal Dance Destiny.

You won’t want to miss this eclectic show!

At Young Dance, we approach each season with a theme. This year, our theme is “Radically One (Together).”

As a youth arts organization, we work hard to foster an environment where students can safely and confidently express their individuality. Concurrently, we strongly believe in the power of building community through movement.

One of our core values is to foster in our students a commitment to self, to the group, and to lifelong learning. This year, we spent time digging deeper into these words, unpacking and dissecting the question: “How can we support the individual, radically accept one another, build community, and fight collectively for the change we want (and need) to see in the world?”

The Young Dance Performing Company is pleased to be returning to the theater to present original pieces choreographed by Aneka McMullen, Blake Nellis, and Margaret Ogas, plus a piece collectively made by the upper-level dancers. Additional guests include students from the Choreography, Hip Hop, Breaking, Modern, and All Abilities Dancing classes.
