Alanna’s movement practice provides an introduction to dance via foundations of functional movement therapies and somatics. This class is grounded in vocabulary and philosophy from classical modern dance, African and Afro-diasporic dance (Guinea, Mali, Haiti and Cuba), and Ballet from a purely anatomical base. In this class we approach the body with reverence, enhance and develop your awareness of the body in physical and emotional space. Students will learn practical methods to strengthen muscles, support joint mobility, find breath support, enhance coordination, and encourage embodied learning. Particular guidance is always given to the energetic patterns of our beings as we build community with each other in this world.
