Third Coast Percussion with Movement Art Is

Metamorphosis
Third Coast Percussion
Featuring choreography by Movement Art Is (Lil Buck and Jon Boogz)
Performed by Cameron Murphy and Quentin Robinson

Third Coast Percussion joins forces with the groundbreaking choreography of Movement Art Is for an intimate, evening-length program that explores the duality of human nature. At once intensely personal and fiercely virtuosic, two disparate styles of street dance blend seamlessly with new music by Jlin and Tyondai Braxton, as well as Third Coast Percussion’s critically-acclaimed arrangements of Philip Glass’s Aguas da Amazonia.

This event will be captioned, with other accessibility services available upon request.

Riverside Park Sound Garden

Dancers Sarah Baumert, Suzette, Gilreath, Erika Hansen, Megan Mayer and Leslie O’Neill perform in a new Sound Garden at Riverside Park. Composer / Director JG Everest teams up with Artist Organizers and poets Chavonn Shen and Nimo Farah to present a new site-specific temporary sound + performance installation at Riverside Park.

The Riverside Park Sound Garden event is a free, family-friendly, self-guided event that features a sound installation of 50+ small, wireless speakers, distributed throughout a section of the park, with live accompaniment by roving musicians and dancers, and live poetry and site-specific visual art. Each small speaker is playing a different part of the whole piece of music, creating a unique, immersive experience that is described as “Concert You Can Move Through”.

This activity is part of the Peoples Center & Clinics’ “Because Your Health Matters” community wellness initiative in partnership with Wavelets Creative. Funding is provided by The Creative Response Fund, a program of the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy in the City of Minneapolis and also in part by The Kresge Foundation, and by the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization.

Alexander Technique with Chloe Nagle

The Alexander Technique teaches skills that are foundational to healthy movement, whether it’s an ordinary task like reaching for something on a shelf or a complex dance phrase. It teaches us how to move with a greater degree of ease and coordination. Alexander Technique provides space for being present, available, and adaptable in our dancing and our daily lives. Together we will build awareness around how we are moving, thinking, and interacting with ourselves. We will apply principles of the Alexander Technique in movement explorations, sequences, and games, leaving time for discussion for a fun and playful approach to exploring the Alexander Technique.

This class is open to all levels of experience as well as to movers of all practices and forms. Touch feedback will at times be offered from the instructor and will always be optional.

Registration is open through Zenon’s MindBody portal and closes ten minutes before class.

She has presented works at venues including Fresh Oysters Performance Research (R.I.P.), Public Functionary, Bryant Lake Bowl, Tek Box, The Southern Theater, Intermedia Arts (R.I.P.), Frey Theatre (Twin Cities, MN) and 9 Herkimer Place (Brooklyn, NY). She has recently enjoyed performing for/collaborating with others including Dua Saleh, Valerie Oliviero, Leila Awadallah, Judith Howard, Rosy Simas, Sophiaaaahjkl;8901, Shayna Allen, Pramila Vasudevan, Megan Mayer, Emily Gastineau, and Erin Drummond. She is a 2017 Q-Stage: New Works and 2019 Momentum: New Dance Works recipient, and currently works with the Lightning Rod Arts Organism as a teaching artist and ensemble member. She is currently working on a piece to be premiered as part of Red Eye’s New Works 4 Weeks festival from May 26-28.

“So excited to share my practice of improvisation and collaborative decision making in the Moving Practice series! In this set of classes I will be focusing on the development and practice of improvisational scores, and what it looks like to allow them to be consistently generative practices that change with you over time as you continue living in them. You will be led through scores I’ve been working with for the past four years to warm up, and then prompted (either by direct text or conceptual/aesthetic stimuli or reflection on personal experiences as impetus, etc.) to develop your own scores in which you can continue to be in dialogue with and build skills to share and relay with those you’re in artistic conversation with. These classes will build on each other sequentially, but also be accessible to drop in for one at any point! Depending on the comfort of those in workshops there may be an element of contact improvisation/weight sharing.”
