MotionArt Children’s Dance Classes

MotionArt focuses on nurturing children’s individual creativity while facilitating their understanding of the dance elements of Space, Time and Energy. Ages 3-6 explore these elements through playful, structured activities, allowing them to expand their movement vocabulary, develop body awareness and gain self-confidence. Ages 7-10 explore the dance elements while being introduced to new movement skills and the creation of their own dances. Ages 11-13 expand their creative and kinesthetic awareness while learning basic movement skills of modern dance.

We are currently offering Creative Dance/Intro to Modern Dance classes for ages 7-10 at the Center for Performing Arts.

Erin Thompson Teaches Advanced Contemporary Classes In Person and on Zoom

Erin’s advanced level contemporary hybrid class through Zenon Dance School includes floor work, standing warm-ups, and phrase work, all designed to enhance the healthy use of joints and muscle groups as dancers release their weight fully into the support of the ground. Experiential awareness, body mapping, improvisation, and creative work are included as dancers channel their own expressive artistry within the movement. The delightful Dean Magraw will accompany on guitar.

MFA in Dance Program at MSU Mankato

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Minnesota State University, Mankato is excited to announce the addition of the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance degree to our Graduate Program. We are now accepting applications for Fall 2021. This three-year program includes tracks in performance and choreography and offers teaching opportunities, as well as graduate assistantships. The program offers applicants an opportunity to choreograph and perform in annual dance concerts and theatrical productions in beautiful venues including the newly renovated 450 seat Ted Paul Theatre, the intimate Andreas black box theatre, and multiple dance studios.

Graduate Students in the MFA Dance Program will have the opportunity to attend the annual American College Dance Association conference in the spring. Guest artists are invited into the program annually for performances of residencies.

Students are supported by 13 faculty and staff members in the department with specialties including choreography, dance performance, history, lighting, costuming, musical theatre, directing, scenic design and public relations.

McKnight Fellowships for Dancers and Choreographers Applications Are Open

The McKnight Fellowships for Choreographers and Dancers annually awards three $25,000 fellowships to Minnesota choreographers and three $25,000 fellowships to Minnesota dancers. The program supports fellows through additional career and artistic development, including solo commissions, a fellows’ retreat, and other programs.

The application website is now open and accepting submissions. The deadline to apply for a fellowship is March 30, 2022 at 3:00 PM CST. Please plan to submit your application early.
