Community Movement Collective Open Classes: CoMoCollective offers small group classes for professionals and adult dancers alike to keep us moving together during this uncertain time. For safety, class sizes are limited and masks are required throughout class.

BCL Adult/Teen Drop-In Classes

Join us for our adult/teen drop-in classes. Dance is for everyone! Get your body moving and enjoy a variety of dance and conditioning classes, including Pilates.

You can join us in-person, or virtually via Zoom. All attending dancers must sign-in on MindBody. Class sign-in will close 10 minutes before the class begins. In-studio class size is limited to 10 dancers.

DECADANCE: Featuring Duniya Drum & Dance and Rhythmically Speaking

This year at The Cowles Center, we are eating our dessert first!

In honor of our tenth anniversary, please join us as we celebrate a decade of dance with the decadence of desserts, all while raising $75,000 to expand our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives!

DECADANCE will feature desserts by Eat Street’s farm-to-table landmark The Copper Hen Cakery & Kitchen and drinks from nightlife hotspot Gold Room Restaurant & Bar (including a one-of-a-kind anniversary cocktail and mocktail), as well as short and sweet performances by Rhythmically Speaking and Duniya Drum & Dance Company — plus a special announcement that will celebrate our amazing local dance talent. In case you were wondering, DECADANCE is not a gala-style event, which means no formal dress code. Be yourself!

Covid-19: Effective September 1, 2021, all visitors to the Cowles who are attending a performance/event in our theater spaces are required to show either proof of a full course of COVID-19 vaccinations administered at least 14 days prior to the show or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the performance/event. Masks are required throughout the Cowles.

Calling All Movement Organizations for Move to the Max 2021

Calling all movement-based arts organizations for Move to the Max 2021 – deadline to inquire is today, September 29!

Are you planning on fundraising for Give to the Max Day this November 18? Join Alternative Motion Project for the fourth annual Move to the MAX: Virtual Edition ’21. This online event thanks supporters, reaches new arts patrons, and promotes community within Minnesota dance/movement organizations.

Each organization is invited to introduce and share a pre-recorded short work, performance, film, or presentation of any kind. There are no costs for organizations to participate in this event.

Whether you are in the Twin Cities or Greater Minnesota, we can bring together our communities to support movement throughout the entire state. All movement genres and styles are highly encouraged to participate.

Alexandra Bodnarchuk – Audition

Alexandra Bodnarchuk is seeking one dancer for a project (duet) running from October 2021-May 2022 with the potential of extending.

Strong candidates will have an interest in: risk taking, partnering, and ten or more years of movement experience. All dancers who have female gendered life experience are welcome to audition. The project is not seeking cis-gendered men. 

Dancer must be fully vaccinated by the start of rehearsals.

Dancers will be compensated at $15/hour. 

Start date: October 18, 2021 (flexible). Rehearsals are 3 hours, 2/week (6 hours/week total).

Schedule will be finalized upon dancer’s hiring. 

Approximate compensation: $1,800-$2,200. 

Strength training to support the physical demands of the choreography will be offered once per week from January-May 2022. This will also be compensated time.

Pop-Up FALL Sound Garden on West River Parkway

Dancers Leslie O’Neill, Megan Mayer, Sarah Baumert, and Erika Hansen perform their site-specific, roving, durational movement scores across a three-acre site along West River Parkway as part of composer/director JG Everest’s immersive FALL Sound Garden sound and performance installation event.

The roving movement scores will begin by 1:00pm and will come and go throughout the space until 4:00pm.

The third of four seasonal “pop-up” Sound Garden events along West River Parkway in 2021, the FALL Sound Garden features layers of site-specific dance, music, poetry, and visual art among some of the oldest trees in Minneapolis.

Sound Gardens are designed as durational, self-guided experiences intended for audience to connect more meaningfully to a particular place and the natural world. The spatial sound score and live dance and musical elements are meant to accompany the sounds and physical elements that are already there – the birds, the trees, the wind, the leaves. Audiences are encouraged to both circulate and linger at their own pace, following their own impulses for what to pay attention to.

Celebrate the roots of Swing and Lindy Hop in America—join SW!NG OUT for an all-out dance party on the Northrop stage and plaza! Acclaimed choreographer and rising star Caleb Teicher and friends Eyal Vilner (composer), Evita Arce, Nathan Bugh, LaTasha Barnes, and Macy Sullivan are creating SW!NG OUT to bring the best of swing dance to the stage.

This immersive dance party is a culmination of SW!NG OUT’s 2020-21 residency that included a month-long Artistic Exchange, a Solo-Jazz Dance class, a Meet the Artists panel, and a Spotlight Series discussion: Identities and Creative Processes, celebrating the passion and power of the African-American born dance form—the Lindy Hop. Experience the ensemble’s dance and music on stage and then join in a second-act “dance jam” on the Northrop Plaza!

This event will be captioned, with other accessibility services available upon request.

Borealis Dance Theatre Youth Cast Auditions

Dance along side Borealis Dance Theatre this holiday season as we bring the beloved poem “The Night Before Christmas” to life onstage this December! Performances are December 12-11.

Auditions will be based in ballet and modern dance concepts. Dancers should be at an intermediate or advanced level. There are many roles to fill with our youth cast. If you (or your dancer) is en pointe, please bring pointe shoes.

The audition is Sunday, October 3 and will begin at 10:00am at The Center for Performing Arts (CFPA) in Minneapolis.

There is free street parking. The entrance is on 38th Street. The studio is the first door on the left once you enter. CFPA has a mask policy in the building. We will be wearing masks during the audition for everyone’s safety and well-being.

Collide Theatrical Presents Frankenstein

Collide Theatrical presents Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, October 7–24, 2021 at the Southern Theater, with a virtual performance available Halloween weekend!

The ultimate story about a human’s need for motherly love and connection. Author Mary Shelley, an unmarried pregnant teen, wrote the infamous science-fiction novel not long after the death of her first child during a period of immense loss and personal suffering. Her remarkable journey is told in parallel with the classic novel through a mix of theatrical dance styles.

Featuring Patrick Jeffrey as Dr. Frankenstein, Renee Guittar as The Creature, and Betsy Nelson as Mary Shelley. Additional cast includes Grace Janiszewski, Brian Bose, Megan Carter, and Ben Siglin.

Created by Regina Peluso with direction by Heather Brockman and Regina Peluso. Choreography by Peluso, Brockman, Guittar, Jeffrey, Jarod Boltjes, and Rush Benson.

Analog Dance Works is Looking for Dancers for its Upcoming Production

Analog Dance Works is seeking two dancers to join the cast of Cloud Cover, a quartet exploring individual and collective responses to the climate crisis, to be shared in the company’s inaugural show, Tellus.

60 hours of rehearsals will take place between November 1, 2021 and April 30, 2022 with tentative performance dates May 3-6, 2022.

Compensation is $1,060.

To be considered, applicants must send a link to a video up to eight minutes in length of themself dancing to analogdanceworks@gmail.com by October 8, 2021. The video should include no more than three clips. Resumes will be considered as supplemental material but are not required.

Dancers should be comfortable partnering and have an interest in a collaborative rehearsal process and movement generation. We welcome applicants of diverse races, ethnicities, geographic origins, gender identities, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, and performance backgrounds.

Dancers must be fully vaccinated before the first rehearsal date.
