Black Label Movement Company Audition

We will be looking to hire at least one new mover and one paid apprentice to be a part of our company moving forward.

New members will join our upcoming 2022 season show April 7-10, 2022 at the Cowles Center in downtown Minneapolis as well as our work moving forward.

Ananya Dance Theatre: Dastak – The Film

This dance film of Ananya Dance Theatre’s work, Dastak, the Farsi word for “knockings,” traces the knockings of global injustices on our hearts in four short sections: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air.

Each section is a meditation on stories of borders, boundaries, loss, belonging, home and liberation, and echoes the subtitle created by writer Sharon Brigforth – I Wish You Me – indicating the cross-generational love that has carried communities through difficult migrations.

Filmmaker Darren Johnson captures these elemental journeys against the varied landscape of MniSota Makoce, ranging from post-Uprising scorched ruins in Minneapolis to tall prairie grasslands of Battle Creek Park, as the dancers pay tribute to the layered history of this land.

Choreographed by Ananya Chatterjea and performed by the artists of Ananya Dance Theatre, this dance film also features the work of a powerful team of collaborators, notably writer and dramaturg Sharon Bridgforth and sound artists Spirit McIntyre and Dameun Strange.

This event will be captioned, with other accessibility services available upon request.

MFA in Dance at Minnesota State University, Mankato

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Minnesota State University, Mankato is now accepting applications for the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance Graduate Program for Fall 2022. This three-year program includes tracks in performance and choreography and offers teaching opportunities, as well as graduate assistantships. The program offers applicants an opportunity to choreograph and perform in annual dance concerts and theatrical productions in beautiful venues including the newly renovated 450-seat Ted Paul Theatre, the intimate Andreas black box theatre, and multiple dance studios.

Graduate students in the MFA Dance Program will have the opportunity to attend the annual American College Dance Association conference in the spring. Guest artists are invited into the program annually for performances of residencies. Students are supported by 13 faculty and staff members in the department with specialties including choreography, dance performance, history, lighting, costuming, musical theatre, directing, scenic design, and public relations.

Preference will be given to applications completed by April 1, 2022. Applications will continue to be accepted until the positions are filled.

Lets Go Crazy – BCL Fundraiser Performance

Let’s Go Crazy – A benefit performance for Ballet Co.Laboratory

Ballet Co.Laboratory’s fourth annual fundraising event, Let’s Go Crazy: A Celebration of Minnesota’s Notable Musicians will be one part rock and one part glam. Experience BCL’s future performance space while taking in a dance performance featuring the music of famous musicians who have called Minnesota home. Proceeds will directly benefit the company dancers, students, and outreach efforts of Ballet Co.Laboratory.

Rent the Young Dance Studios

Young Dance has two large studios available for rent in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul, easily accessible by the Green Line light rail, the 16 and 67 Bus Lines, and with ample parking in the Fairview Business Center parking lot. The space is fully ADA accessible with ramps to the sprung studio floor and automatic door openers. 

Rentals are available between the hours of 9:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday, after 4:00pm on Saturday, and all day on Sundays. 

The studios are newly equipped with sprung Harlequin Marley flooring, a bluetooth speaker system, and wifi. There are no mirrors. The studio has a clear COVID safety plan including regular disinfecting of all floors and surfaces, as well as a new HVAC system which refreshes the air 7-8 times per hour. Renters will also have access to a large lobby (25’ x 29’) and up to 50 chairs. 

Studio 1: Measures 41′ x 38′ and rents at:

Studio Rentals at Collide Theatrical in St Paul

Need space to rehearse, choreograph, teach, or hold an event? Collide Theatrical has two studios available for rental in our beautiful St. Paul location.

Studio 1 has 1700 square feet of sprung floor, full wall-length mirrors, Rosco Adagio Marley dance floor, high ceilings, sky lights, and three chandeliers.

Studio 2 has 550 square feet of sprung wood floor.

Both studios have the following amenities:

  • Ballet barres for up to 18 students
  • Free and accessible parking and access to public transportation line
  • Gender-specific bathrooms (non-gender-specific bathroom available in the adjacent building)
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth room speakers
  • Cubbies for holding shoes and clothes
  • Two long folding tables
  • Access to up to 30 folding chairs
  • HVAC heated and cooled spaces with temperature control
  • Hallway drinking fountains. Access to kitchenette area available upon request.

Single Rental:

Long-Term or Multiple-Day Rental:

Payment for rental bookings must be made 48 hours prior to your booking to hold your reservation. A signed rental agreement and certificate of insurance must be provided prior to your reservation. SW!NG OUT: Lindy Hop at The Southern Theater

Local Lindy legends Peter Strom and Naomi Uyama will lead this unique workshop designed for intermediate swing dancers with a guest appearance by dancers from SW!NG OUT. Add to your Lindy fundamentals, and work on some fun ways to improvise with your partner to the music. Come solo or with a dancing partner, and be ready to move!

Young Dance Presents Fall Fling–With Fairview Business Center Partners

Join Young Dance and friends on Saturday, October 16 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. for Fall Fling!

This outdoor celebration is fun for the whole family! Enjoy performances by Young Dance, CAAM Chinese Dance Theater, Smiling Drum, St. Paul Ballet, and Youth Performance Company alongside activities such as games, participatory demonstrations, and bubbles. Food will be available from the Got Rice food truck.

Individuals with and without disabilities regularly engage with the organizations at the Fairview Business Center. We value access and continue to work to improve our programming and space to better meet people’s needs. Parking is wheelchair accessible and seating will be available. Please let us know if there are any accommodations needed to participate in this event. 

Masks recommended. Activities will be outdoors, but in the event of rain, the event will continue inside at each partner’s location.

RS Seeking Jazz and American Social Dance-Inspired Works for Stage and Screen

Rhythmically Speaking, a Twin Cities-based dance company with a 14-year history of presenting a summer production featuring local and visiting choreographers alike and a national reputation for excellence in jazz, seeks works for stage and screen for presentation as a part of our program The Cohort 2022.

The program includes a live stage production in the Twin Cities in summer 2022 and dance film screenings in the fall in partnership with the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema (CO), a niche film festival specializing in films that integrate the aesthetics of dance and cinema.

Submitted works must explore jazz and/or American social dance ideas from forms including but not limited to tap and hip hop styles. We encourage you to join the ongoing conversation around “what constitutes jazz and American social dance,” and the sociocultural histories of and innovations in these styles by submitting. Artists 21 and older at any point in their careers are welcomed to submit.

Separate curatorial panels for stage and screen works will select three works for a live production in Minneapolis in August 2022, and 7-10 films for fall screening events. Stage submissions must be for eight or fewer dancers and between 15-22 minutes in length, and will be selected through both this open call and by invitation. The staged works panel will be selecting two works of existent, revisited repertoire from visiting (based outside of Minnesota) artists, and one proposal for a new work from a local (Minnesota-based) artist. All stage works will be performed by the Rhythmically Speaking company dancers. Screen works submissions must be between 2-15 minutes in length.
