Concerto Dance is Holding Auditions

Concerto Dance is holding auditions for new company members Saturday, August 14 from 1:00-3:00pm.

Concerto Dance is looking for dancers ages 18 and older who have a strong background in both modern and jazz dance, previous performance experience, and who support the mission of the company for our upcoming season. Please see our website to learn more about the company. BIPOC dancers encouraged to attend. All are welcome.

We are specifically looking to expand our cast for our new work Girls in the Band. Dancers must be available Friday mornings for company class and rehearsal, with additional Wednesday morning rehearsals scheduled. Paid performance opportunities.

Helen Hatch Shares Her Story on Studio Stories Podcast

Join ARENA DANCES for our weekly Studio Stories Podcast, where each week we reminisce on Twin Cities dance history with a new special guest. This week, we sat down with Helen Hatch to learn about her journey. 

Helen Hatch is the founder and artistic director of contemporary dance company Hatch Dance. A Minnesota native, Helen graduated cum laude from the Ailey/Fordham BFA program. From 2011-2017, Helen was a member of Minnesota Dance Theatre, performing a diverse repertory in addition to creating her own work. She has been commissioned by a number of organizations and artists, including JUNTOS Collective, Aveda Corporation, McKnight Fellowship winner Penelope Freeh, The Southern Theater, and more.

TU Dance Center: Renting TU Dance Center

TU Dance Center is available for rental when not in use by the school.

TU Dance Center features:

Reception area and front desk for check-in or event use. Access to adjacent dressing room and green room with kitchenette are available upon request.

Both studios: sprung dance floor with Marley-type surface by Harlequin, wall of mirrors, portable ballet barre units 10′ in length, room-level sound system with CD and mini-jack inputs, 50′ LCD TV cart for presentation and videoconferencing. Large windows providing ample natural light.

Studio 1 only: a curtain that can be drawn on entire mirror, wall-mounted ballet barres of 27′ and 33′.

Ballet Royale: Beauty and the Beast Inspired Creative Story Ballet Workshop

Give your young dancer the joy of dance and performance!

On Saturday, August 14, Ballet Royale is offering a Beauty and the Beast-inspired Creative Story Ballet Workshop! This is our final story ballet workshop for the summer, and it includes a short performance at the end.

Recommended for ages four through nine.

Class sizes will be limited to maintain social distancing.

Chaconne – Live Dance and Music Performance

Dancer Yuki Tokuda will bring live performances with violinist, Natsuki Kumagai (MN Orchestra) to Peavey Plaza in downtown Minneapolis.

Tokuda’s choreography on J.S Bach’s Chaconne expresses that there is always a hope during darkness and after sorrow.

Space at The Arena

Located in the heart of the LynLake community, The Arena is available for your rehearsal, class, and event needs!

Our space offers 1,305 square feet, (30×40) of sprung floor, Marley dance flooring, wall-length mirrors (with curtains to cover if preferred), free wifi and a changing room.

We are situated on multiple bus lines, including the 21, 4, 23, 612, 18, with plenty of free, street parking around the building.

Dance instructor, Plymouth Congregational Church

Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis is in search of a dance and movement instructor for young people in grades K-12+.

Plymouth has a long history of incorporating dance into worship services. We are looking for a candidate who: takes interest in and inspiration from a variety of cultures and genres; teaches free and authentic movement; can envision and design offerings that enrich the worship experience, even inviting the congregation into responsorial movement and other projects.

Requirements:
– peace and social justice oriented
– welcoming to dancers and movers of all ages, abilities, genders, and sexual orientations
– experienced and comfortable working with groups of children, typically in K-2 and 3-12 grade groupings
– will prepare a piece as an offering or prelude in Sunday worship (9:00am or 11:00am services) approximately once every two months
– is available for a short Open House in the late afternoon of September 1 for an outdoor meet and greet with prospective dancers
– is available Wednesday nights between 6:00-8:00pm, starting September 15
– is available for Christmas Eve service December 24 at 5:00pm

– is available for Youth Sunday service (third Sunday in May) at 10:00am

Pay: $70 per session

This information session will be geared towards first-time applicants and focus on frequently asked questions regarding the application materials – the artistic statement, resume and work sample. Current Fellows will also join us to share their experience as applicants. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat feature, or are encouraged to submit a question by email when you RSVP.

Neighborhood Dances – Long Lake Park

Come join us for our last outdoor performance of the summer!

Neighborhood Dances is a series of free mini dance concerts performed in public spaces and inviting community participation. We teach parts of the dances to anyone who wants to join in. ASL signing included and options for limited mobility. Offered as a way to respond to the difficulties of this past year, we aim to spread joy, blessings and healing through dance while acknowledging God as our higher perspective and hope.

Young Dance Performing Company Preseason Camp

Join Chitra Vairavan and Anat Shinar for a preseason Performing Company camp! We’ll dance the mornings away exploring a variety of techniques with special guests, develop our improvisation and dance-making skills, and build community through movement activities.

The Young Dance company is a group of passionate dancers committed to exploring themselves and their world through dance.

Company members, ages 7-18, take weekly classes and rehearse on Saturdays, September through May. The company frames its annual season around a theme that immerses dancers in artistic inquiry and produces high quality, innovative performances. Dancers work with professional artists to investigate and collaborate on choreography relative to the selected theme. Their work is presented in venues throughout the year and in a season finale concert each spring.
